SUMMARY:Chats at Wishbone Saturday August 3\, 11:30 -1pm
DESCRIPTION:Our Agenda: \nContinue to chat and plan the Toronto Animal Rights March as well as plan a quick demo\, when we are done the meeting\, for Paul Watson. \nAR Chats FB event page:\nhttps://facebook.com/events/s/ar-chats-at-wishbone-saturday-/510756581474377/ \nCome chat with us until 1pm or so…and then move on to join We The Free. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/share/x77sdeKdkm7GiKZW/?mibextid=9l3rBW \nIf you can\, bring some delicious food to share. \nThis agenda and minutes from last meeting in comments. \nLet’s return Toronto and other cities in Ontario to the thriving\, prolific animal activism centres they once were. \nJoin with other like-minded and like-hearted people to chat\, brainstorm\, and strategize about standing up for the animals! \nAfter each session\, attendees are encouraged to participate in a street action to put your new skills and energy into practice (this is totally voluntary\, no pressure). And sometimes homework will be assigned and due for discussion at the next scheduled meeting. \nSome attend one week but can’t come to the next one…attend when you can. \nWhether you’re a seasoned advocate or someone new to the scene\, this is a judgment-free\, no-pressure environment that welcomes every idea and supports every comfort level. \nBecause each person is uniquely wired and different tactics resonate with different people\, there’s no one foolproof form of activism…it can be effective\, without being complicated or elaborate. And it doesn’t have to restrict itself to traditional methods like street marches with loud chants or holding up graphic imagery on a street corner (although both of these can be quite impactful…and often feel really good!). Instead\, standing up for animals can take on a variety of unique forms — almost as varied as the individuals taking part and the members of the public receiving the message. Every small action contributes to creating a world that respects and protects animals. \nAs the McKnight Building (600 Bay) is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto\, the building is often not accessible on weekends. Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab…where vegan is the default\, NOT the option.

SUMMARY:Connection Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us the day before Solidarity Day https://fb.me/e/4To7PETcZ\nfor our Connection Day event! \nThis is a fantastic opportunity to make new friends\, strengthen existing bonds\, and enjoy some delicious vegan food! \nPlease meet at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab for 1pm so that you can drop off personal belongings and any contribution to our potluck. At 1:30pm we will walk over to Grange Park together. If you are late\, you can still drop things off at Wishbone and meet us at the park afterwards. We will do team building games at the park and then walk back to Wishbone for a social & potluck. \nBuilding friendships within the animal rights movement is so important\, we can’t underestimate the importance of supporting each other and keeping each other strong. This is what we hope to fuel during Connection Day—bringing people together to have fun and connect. We must stay connected so that we can focus and work towards our common goal of achieving animal liberation.

SUMMARY:Solidarity Day
DESCRIPTION:Join We The Free on August 4th for our third annual Solidarity Day! Volunteers from all over Canada (and beyond) will be coming together for this massive outreach event! This is an incredible opportunity for the wider community to join together in solidarity for the victims of animal agriculture. When we can unite in such large numbers\, we are a strong force capable of making an unimaginable impact. Mark your calendars; this is an event you don’t want to miss! \nThis event is being held by our Canadian teams coming together – to find your local team head to www.activism.wtf/getinvolved \nThe WTF 3 Minute Movie Challenge is a unique way for members of the public to learn standard practices of the animal agriculture industry. They are invited to view a 3-minute movie in exchange for a vegan treat. We attempt to lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through outreach conversations with a value-based coaching approach. \nWe would love for everyone that wants a branded t-shirt to be able to have one! We are selling our special edition Solidarity Day tees & hoodies! A very limited number of t-shirts will be available at the event. \nTo ensure you have your Solidarity Day merch for event day\, go to https://www.hoomanwear.co/collection/we-the-free/ – all branded clothing is sold at only a small surplus above cost price\, with the extra set aside to help an activist who can’t afford a t-shirt. If you want a t-shirt but can’t afford one\, message your organizer to request a discounted (or free) t-shirt. By buying full price gear you are supporting disadvantaged activists! \nIf you would like to prepare your vegan advocacy skills in advance\, here are a few resources we recommend: www.activism.wtf/training \nThe event will start at 11am for a briefing\, so please aim to arrive 10 minutes early in case you experience delays. \nAfter the event\, we will all gather for a celebration of the amazing work we have done for animals. At We The Free\, we follow the “work hard\, play hard” philosophy. While we realize that getting out in the streets is important\, we understand that no community can thrive without also focusing on team-building. That’s why we encourage everyone to take part in our community social celebration! \nJoin us the day before for our community building event: https://www.facebook.com/events/778228571093781 \nEveryone is welcome!

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save weekly vigil for the Pigs
DESCRIPTION:Don’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearman’s slaughterhouses. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) The purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \n????‍ Keep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: \n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. \n2) Pigs are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some pigs will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n❤️????❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you.

SUMMARY:AR Chats @ Wishbone
DESCRIPTION:Come chat with us! And organize\, strategize\, and get active for animals. Along with other activism\, we are planning the Toronto Animal Rights March taking place September 14\, 2024. \nIf you can\, bring some delicious food to share. \nLet’s return Toronto and other cities in Ontario to the thriving\, prolific animal activism centres they once were. \nJoin with other like-minded and like-hearted people to chat\, brainstorm\, and strategize about standing up for the animals!\nAfter each session\, attendees are encouraged to participate in a street action to put your new skills and energy into practice (this is totally voluntary\, no pressure). Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience.\nWishbone Animal Rights Lab…where vegan is the default\, NOT the option. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nThough we don’t respect what they are doing for a living\, let’s respect the drivers for giving us this time to show the world the plight of farmed animals. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore).

SUMMARY:Toronto: Urge Pharrell Williams to nix cruel animal skins
DESCRIPTION:Please join local PETA supporters outside the Pharrell Williams’ Piece by Piece documentary and biopic screening at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to call out Pharrell\, Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director\, for his disgraceful use of wild animal skins and fur in his collections. \nAnimals raised and killed for fur are confined to tiny\, filthy cages before they’re electrocuted\, bludgeoned\, gassed\, or even skinned alive. A PETA Asia investigation into slaughterhouses in Indonesia that supply LVMH shows snakes being inflated with water\, bashed with hammers\, and cut with razors while likely still conscious. PETA entities have also documented how workers in the fashion industry hack at crocodiles’ necks and shove metal rods down their spines\, chop off conscious lizards’ heads with machetes\, and electrically stun ostriches before slitting their throats in full view of their terrified flockmates. \nWe are calling on Pharrell to stop being complicit in cruelty and help pull Louis Vuitton out of the dark ages by shunning the antiquated use of animal skins. \nTo learn more and to take action please visit: https://support.peta.org/page/70082/action/1?locale=en-US \nHere are the details: \nWHEN: Saturday\, September 7th\, 2024 7:30am – 9am ET \nWHERE: Scotiabank Theatre: 259 Richmond St W\, Toronto\, ON M5V 3M6\, Canada (Please see map here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ziTYr7fmHhVHXG8p6) \nCONTACT: Racheli Holstein\, RacheliH@peta.org \nAll materials (such as posters and leaflets) will be provided. \nPlease wear business-professional clothing and dress sharply. Looking uniform helps our message come across much stronger! \nPlease refrain from bringing dogs as there may not be shade or a safe place for them to lie down during the protest. \nNote that reserved parking will not be available\, and please be prepared for the weather. \nOutreach events are a fun and effective way to help animals as well as meet local advocates\, so be sure to invite others!

SUMMARY:AR Chats and Sign Making Soiree
DESCRIPTION:We are finalizing the planning of the Toronto Animal Rights March on Sunday at noon. Please join us to have your say. And let your creative juices flow and make your own poster for the march from 2:00 to 3:00 (or 4:00)\, as well. \nCome chat with us! And organize\, strategize\, and get active for animals. Along with other activism\, we are planning the Toronto Animal Rights March taking place September 14\, 2024. \nPlease bring a small snack or other delicious vegan food to share. And sometimes homework will be assigned and due for discussion at the next scheduled meeting.\nSome attend one week\, but can’t come to the next one…just attend when you can.
