SUMMARY:Free the Beasts book launch and reception
DESCRIPTION:Following a live studio audience taping of The Calling All Vegans Show\, we will be celebrating NYC-based multimedia animal liberation and environmental protection artivists\, Artemis Beasts (aka Vilma Duplantier and Shelly Voorhees)\, at the unveiling of their stunningly gorgeous art + cookbook\, “Free The Beasts: Plant Based Activism”. Performance art\, plant-based food\, and activism come together to showcase the interconnectedness between human\, animal\, and nature\, to inspire peaceful co-existence and compassion for animals. \nBut the goodness doesn’t just live on the pages inside this book…10 percent of book sales and 30 percent of art sales will be distributed to @rowdygirlsanctuary \, @nyclass \, and @tamerlainesanctuary \, each doing crucial work for animals. \nOver mocktails and light plant-based snacks\, get to know the two anthropomorphic beings — half human animal/half non-human animal — who are featured throughout “Free the Beasts”\, where animals are not only NOT food\, but are instead in a position of great respect. \nThrough this book\, the Artemis Beasts are enjoying life\, good food\, freely expressing thoughts about animal liberation\, and presenting the abundance in the kingdom of plants. Their goal is for all of us to escape the broken\, dystopian\, animal-based food industry\, and live on a planet where all “beasts” are free. \nThe vintage elevator is up and running until 4:00! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

More info can be found there. \n\nAnimals are suffering\nRescues and shelters are full\, closed to intakes\nAbusers left unpunished – left to continue harming animals\nRescues and sanctuaries are being forced to hold animals that Animal Welfare Services have no ability to\nOntario’s government-run animal welfare legislation and enforcement system is completely broken\nLegislation and underlying regulations are very weak and vague\, making compliance nearly impossible\nResponse times to animal-in-need calls take days or weeks\nInspectors woefully under-resourced\nBreeders not licensed\nNo accountability to the taxpayers of Ontario\nOver 70% of the annual budget is spent on salaries\, not services\n\nThere will be parking at the travel agency located on Stanley Ave. We have spoken to them and they know we are protesting that day. DESCRIPTION:Please share the event! The campaign has now launched! \nJoin Mercy For Animals volunteers to demand Sobeys to publish a time-bound plan for fulfilling their pledge to eliminate extreme confinement for hens in their egg supply chain. \nIn 2016\, Sobeys and their parent company\, Empire\, publicly promised to stop sourcing eggs from caged hens by 2025.\nYears later\, despite ruling over some of Canada’s largest and most profitable grocery brands\, Empire retracted their commitment deadline in 2021\, stating that they would not meet their original deadline. \nSobeys promised to publish an updated plan for finishing their transition but has yet to share how and when they plan to fulfill their cage-free promise. \nWe’re urging Sobeys to publish a time-bound plan for fulfilling their pledge to eliminate extreme confinement for hens in their egg supply chain. \nLearn about our current Canadian campaign here: https://empireofgreed.ca \nWe will be at the Sobeys located at 24 Fort York Blvd\, Toronto\, ON M5V\, Canada\, Saturday\, July 19\, 2025\, at 1 PM to inform the public about this issue and hold them accountable to their promise. \nWe will have a banner\, signs\, and leaflets to use the day of. SUMMARY:AR Chats – Sunday July 20\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join with other like-minded and like-hearted people to chat\, brainstorm\, and strategize about standing up for the animals! \nOn the agenda: 2025 Toronto Animal Rights March debrief! \nA few details about AR Chats @Wishbone:\nWhether you’re a seasoned advocate or someone new to the scene\, this is a judgment-free\, no-pressure environment that welcomes every idea and supports every comfort level. Because each person is uniquely wired and different tactics resonate with different people\, there’s no one foolproof form of activism. \nAfter each session\, attendees are encouraged to participate in a street action to put your new skills and energy into practice (this is totally voluntary\, no pressure). \nSome attend one week\, but can’t come to the next one…just attend when you can. \nPlease feel free to bring a plant-based food item to share. \nLet’s return Toronto and other cities in Ontario to the thriving\, prolific animal activism centres they once were! \nAs the building that houses Wishbone is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto (but only during weekday office hours)\, Wishbone will unfortunately not be accessible to anyone requiring a lift to the third floor. Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab…where vegan is the default\, NOT the option.

SUMMARY:Art Exhibit Opening & Reception - Missing Out by Fabliha Ahmed
DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibit: Missing Out by Fabliha Ahmed Reception at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab | Toronto | July 26\, 2025 | 2pm to 5pm \nJoin us at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab for a special afternoon celebrating the vibrant work of vegan artist\, Fabliha Ahmed. Her exhibit\, “Missing Out”\, flips the script on the tired notion that vegans are deprived. Rather\, through a series of bold\, radiant paintings showcasing plant-based dishes\, Fabliha shows that we are anything **but** missing out. \nEach piece in the exhibit is a joyful\, mouthwatering celebration of the abundance\, creativity\, and beauty of vegan food. Fabliha’s art invites viewers to see what compassionate living really looks like…colourful\, rich\, and deeply satisfying. It’s eye-candy that truly gives one food for thought! \nTreat yourself to this deliciously inspiring show and opening reception on Saturday\, July 26\, 2025…and meet Fabliha herself! Refreshments will be served…because an art exhibit just wouldn’t be complete without yummy finger foods (vegan\, of course!) and a mocktail to toast this talented artist. \nOriginals and prints are available for sale. Don’t miss this opportunity to take home your very own fabulous “Fabliha”! Wishbone Animal Rights Lab is volunteer-run and relies on the kindness of others (including ourselves!) to keep the Lab up and running\, so donations are gratefully accepted. Donations allow us to host more community-building events\, develop more programming\, conduct more workshops\, create more content\, purchase more equipment and literature\, and cover our monthly hard costs. Please show your support via wishbonearlab.ca/donate or e-transfer/PayPal to wishbonearlab@gmail.com. \nFYI: Wishbone is located within a heritage building that houses one of Toronto’s last remaining attendant-operated elevators. However\, outside of regular weekday office hours\, the lift is not always available. Unfortunately\, in this case\, this is NOT an accessible event. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:We The Free - Solidarity Day (3 Minute Movie Challenge)
DESCRIPTION:Join We The Free on August 2nd for our fourth annual Solidarity Day! Volunteers from all over Canada (and beyond) will be coming together for this massive outreach event! This is an incredible opportunity for the wider community to join together in solidarity for the victims of animal agriculture. When we can unite in such large numbers\, we are a strong force capable of making an unimaginable impact. Mark your calendars; this is an event you don’t want to miss! \nThis event is being held by our Canadian teams coming together – to find your local team head to www.activism.wtf/getinvolved \nThe WTF 3 Minute Movie Challenge is a unique way for members of the public to learn standard practices of the animal agriculture industry. They are invited to view a 3-minute movie in exchange for a vegan treat. We attempt to lead bystanders to a vegan conclusion through outreach conversations with a value-based coaching approach. \nThe event will start at 11am for a briefing\, so please aim to arrive 15 minutes early in case you experience delays. \nAfter the event\, we will all gather for a celebration of the amazing work we have done for animals. At We The Free\, we follow the “work hard\, play hard” philosophy. While we realize that getting out in the streets is important\, we understand that no community can thrive without also focusing on team-building. That’s why we encourage everyone to take part in our community social celebration! \nWe would love for everyone that wants a branded t-shirt to be able to have one! We are selling our special edition Solidarity Day tees & hoodies! A very limited number of t-shirts will be available at the event. \nTo ensure you have your Solidarity Day merch for event day\, go to https://www.hoomanwear.co/collection/we-the-free/ – all branded clothing is sold at only a small surplus above cost price\, with the extra set aside to help an activist who can’t afford a t-shirt. If you want a t-shirt but can’t afford one\, message your organizer to request a discounted (or free) t-shirt. By buying full price gear you are supporting disadvantaged activists! \nIf you would like to prepare your vegan advocacy skills in advance\, please attend our training & community building evening on August 1st – more details coming soon! \nEveryone is welcome!

SUMMARY:Vigil for the Animals Who Lost Their Lives to St. Joseph's Hospital
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a peaceful vigil to honor the lives of the dogs\, pigs and rodents who were subjected to painful outdated experiments conducted by St. Joseph’s Hospital. These innocent animals suffered and died and we will remember them and the lives they didn’t have the chance to live. \nWhat to Expect:\n🌸 A memorial space will be set up with a banner\, photos of some of the animals that have been killed\, and flowers.\n🕯️ We will stand in solidarity\, share words\, and reflect with a moment of silence.\n💌 You are invited to bring letters\, toys\, drawings\, or flowers to lay at the memorial. \nThis vigil is not just a moment of remembrance\, it’s a call for change. It’s time that the hospital stops forcing animals to endure highly invasive horrific experiments such as heart heart attacks lasting up to 3 hours\, and commit to replacing animal testing with modern\, ethical alternatives. \nAll are welcome. Let’s show St. Joseph’s Hospital that these animals’ lives mattered\, that it is time to halt the killing and release the dogs and pigs for rehoming. \nTo learn more about the experiences of the animals who lost their lives in secret experiments at St. Joseph’s Hospital\, watch our exposé: https://youtu.be/dJzpBk0ISpU
