SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save weekly vigil for the Pigs
DESCRIPTION:Don’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearman’s slaughterhouses. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) The purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nThough we don’t respect what they are doing for a living\, let’s respect the drivers for giving us this time to show the world the plight of farmed animals. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \n????‍ Keep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: \n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. \n2) Pigs are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some pigs will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n❤️????❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you.

SUMMARY:Easy-Peasy Everyday Animal Activism
DESCRIPTION:Animal activism can be effective\, without being complicated or elaborate. And it doesn’t have to restrict itself to traditional methods like street marches with loud chants or holding up graphic imagery on a street corner (although both of these can be quite impactful…and often feel really good!). Instead\, standing up for animals can take on a variety of unique forms — almost as varied as the individuals taking part. Remember\, every small action contributes to creating a world that respects and protects animals. And if you’re doing something quick and easy\, you’re less likely to procrastinate or talk yourself out of it. \nBUTTON IT!\nThe Lab just so happens to have a button-making machine AND a consummate pro onsite who knows how to operate it. Alec “Buttons” Bosse will provide a step-by-step tutorial and will print out some shiny orbs ranging in size from 1 inch\, 1-1/4 inches\, 1-3/4 inches\, and 2-1/4 inches\, ready for backpack-pinning and distribution.\n@ap.bosse.yyz \nMY CARD…\nJenny “I Ain’t No Fur-Hag” McQueen will be sharing tips on how she engages with the public via her low-key “business card activism”. Then she’ll regale us with something way more scary: Approaching fur-wearers…and requesting that they “#ZipOffTheCruelty”. One activist…definitely two different comfort levels at play!\n@jennyveganmcqueen \n“HEY\, BRO\, YOU WANT THIS PAMPHLET?” BRO: “CHURE!” (you’ll get it eventually)\nIt can be very disconcerting to hand someone a flyer\, only to have them mock\, dismiss\, or discard it. Veteran educator\, activist\, and woman with the patience of a saint while handing out flyers\, Mary-Chris Staples\, will discuss the technique of targeted leafleting: The art of delivering the vegan message right into the hands\, minds\, and hearts of your intended audience…and keeping it there.\n@staplesmarychris \n“CHALK”-FULL OF CREATIVITY!\nWhy did we ask Tim Theodore and Jo Lalonde to do a presentation on chalktivism? Chalk it up to how artistic they are! (groan) Jo and Tim create magnificent chalk murals on sidewalks and walls\, and Tim is also responsible for the beautiful work-in-progress chalkboard piece that hangs proudly at Wishbone. These creatives will talk about how simple and effective “chalktivism” can be\, educate us on best practices and local laws\, and offer inspiration on images and strategic messaging to capture the public’s attention.\n@chalkchick @chalkingvegan \nLET YOUR FREAK FLAG FLY!\nTired of putting a poster or sticker on a pole\, only to find that some Zero the Hero has defaced it or torn it down? Well\, Sheldon Stewart of Compassion Is An Action has a simple little technique that will turn the tables on your tormentor and make your message virtually indestructible!\n@compassion.is.an.action \nSTICK IT!\nSue “Stickers” Spahr enjoys the Ninja art of stickering\, postering\, and “sneakleting” (stealthily leaving vegan literature for others to happen upon). She will share her insights on safeguarding the messaging from both environmental and human factors. And to ensure we don’t do more harm than good\, we’ll also discuss where one should NOT place stickers.\n@wishbonearlab\n@calling_all_vegans_show \nWEAR YOUR HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE…LITERALLY!\nPeople love to display their love for their favourite band or sports team. Advertise that you play on Team Vegan via your t-shirt\, mask\, hat…etcetera! Incorporate pro-animal rights messages into your wardrobe to spread awareness\, spark conversations\, and even meet like-hearted/like-minded people!\nThe Lab has loads of new and previously-loved vegan-themed shirts looking for a new home. For a minimum donation of $5.00 each\, you can support Wishbone AND rock your favourite vegan organizations\, sanctuaries\, and phrases! \nWishbone is a volunteer-driven\, largely self-funded initiative. Donations allow us to host more community-building events\, develop more programming\, conduct more workshops\, create more content\, purchase more equipment and literature\, and cover our monthly hard costs. \nFYI: The McKnight Building\, approaching its centennial\, boasts one of Toronto’s last operator-required elevators. Meaning that during weekends\, the elevator rests unless a fee is paid. If assistance to the 3rd floor is needed\, contact us\, and we’ll strive to accommodate you\, be it for this event or a future one. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The Toronto Maple Leafs are holding their annual outdoor practice at Nathan Phillips Square on Thursday at noon. As you may know\, the team is sponsored by the dairy farmers of ontario and sport a logo that says ‘milk’ in the team jerseys. We will meet at the NW corner of Queen and Bay to do anti dairy outreach and a WTF cube. At noon we will head to the upper levels of NPS with a large ‘Dairy is Scary’ banner and signs.

SUMMARY:Dairy Is Scary All Star Outreach
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Scotia Bank Arena where Toronto is hosting the 2024 NHL All Star Game. We will be raising awareness about the realities of the dairy industry that\, sadly\, is the sponsor of our own Toronto Maple Leafs. We will do this by handing out ‘So Delicious’ Ice Cream Sandwiches along with ‘DairyTruth’ leaflets and\, of course we’ll have large signage! Give-Aways are always fun – people like free things and 1500 of them will get to see how great non dairy ice cream tastes! The game starts at 3pm so we want to be there by 2 pm to start handing out the goods! If you have a Leafs jersey\, or can borrow one\, please wear it!! We will give you an X’d out ‘milk’ logo to pin on it! \nThanks so much to Amanda Oakes for helping with the graphics! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:DEMONSTRATION AT FORD’S P.C. POLICY CONVENTION
DESCRIPTION:A full-scale demonstration in front of the people we need to hear us the most … Doug Ford\, all the MPPs (likely including Graydon Smith)\, and registered Conservative Party members. \nThis is an All-Day affair\, and we want to ensure we’re seen and heard\, so we’re committing to have no less than 2 of the 3 co-hosts present out front at any given time from 8am-4pm. \nThe Convention registration and breakfast run from 8am-10am\, with the first session immediately after that\, so this will likely be the time frame that sees the most amount of traffic\, and maybe catches Doug arriving. Please make it for this time if at all possible. \nThe next best option would be approx 1pm-4pm to catch the people who aren’t attending the afternoon sessions in order to freshen up before the dinner event which starts at 5:30pm. \nFYI – a press release will be going out soon to invite the media to come see us that day. It would be more enticing for them if more of you were registered to attend when they look in to this. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates. \n

\nKeep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. \n❤️❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you.
