SUMMARY:Getting Into Good Trouble: Behind the Scenes of Corporate Animal Advocacy Campaigns
DESCRIPTION:Join to learn about what goes into behind-the-scenes planning and strategizing for corporate campaigns with Mercy For Animals’ Campaign Specialist\, Rhi Henkelman. \nThe event will feature a presentation and Q&A from Rhi\, followed by some social time paired with vegan treats. \nFollowing the launch of Mercy For Animals’ Empire of Greed campaign targeting Sobeys\, we want to give activists and volunteers an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes. On-the-ground activism such as protests are a key element in pressuring and holding companies accountable\, but it works best when paired with a strategic campaign plan. Join to learn about how these elements work together to help animals. \nLearn about our current Canadian campaign here: https://empireofgreed.ca \nBy attending this and other Mercy For Animals events\, you agree to our Volunteer Terms and Volunteer Handbook. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:AR Chats @ Wishbone
DESCRIPTION:Come join with other like-minded and like-hearted people to chat\, brainstorm\, and strategize about standing up for the animals!\nOn the agenda: Along with general discussion about getting animal-active\, we’re down to the short strokes with planning for the 2025 Toronto Animal Rights March! \nZoom link available. Contact Jenny McQueen\, Colleen Burns\, or Sue Spahr for details. \nA few details about AR Chats @Wishbone: \nWhether you’re a seasoned advocate or someone new to the scene\, this is a judgment-free\, no-pressure environment that welcomes every idea and supports every comfort level. Because each person is uniquely wired and different tactics resonate with different people\, there’s no one foolproof form of activism. \nAfter each session\, attendees are encouraged to participate in a street action to put your new skills and energy into practice (this is totally voluntary\, no pressure). And sometimes homework will be assigned and due for discussion at the next scheduled meeting.\nSome attend one week\, but can’t come to the next one…just attend when you can. \nPlease feel free to bring a plant-based food item to share. \nLet’s return Toronto and other cities in Ontario to the thriving\, prolific animal activism centres they once were! \nAs the building that houses Wishbone is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto (but only during weekday office hours)\, Wishbone will unfortunately not be accessible to anyone requiring a lift to the third floor. Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab…where vegan is the default\, NOT the option. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Banner Drop for Regan
DESCRIPTION:We will do a banner drop over the QEW\, a few minutes away from the slaughterhouse where Regan Russell was killed 5 years ago. \nRegan never got justice for her killing because unfortunately animal rights activists have the same rights as the animals\, to be slaughtered without human consequence. \nWhen raising our voice for Regan we are raising our voice for all victims of “allowed” violence. \nYou are always in our hearts Regan and we will continue to fight for justice to end the violence that is animal agriculture. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:LIVE Studio Audience Taping of Calling All Vegans
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, June 20th at 1:30 (come a little earlier to pick your seat and get yourself settled) and be part of a live studio audience. \nFeel free to bring your lunch (but plant-based only). And you have our blessing to call your work and say you got “sick” all of a sudden\, or just give yourself permission to take a well-deserved loooong lunch before a weekend…and even don’t bother going back. We won’t tell! \nAnd because it’s a weekday\, the vintage elevator will be running! \nOn the brink of celebrating their 600th episode\, we have the entire VegOut Podcast crew on the set. The show is the longest-running of its kind in Toronto! Since they probably don’t want to lie on top of one another on the couch\, I guess we’ll have to put out a couple extra chairs for them. \nAfter all these years\, we FINALLY get to sit down with award-winning songbird and voice teacher\, Stephanie Braganza!\nAnd kitchen magician from north of the city\, Ryan Traversy\, the ginger behind Red’s Breads\, will be in da house! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:❗❗❗❗Emergency Heat Event for the Pigs❗❗❗❗🌡️
DESCRIPTION:We will meet and park at the gas bar next to the Wendys/Tim Hortons on the corner of Appleby and Harvester roads in Burlington for 8:30 am. \nCheck event page for updates: https://facebook.com/events/s/emergency-heat-event-for-the-p/1436932067493212/ \nWe will hold signs to the traffic about the atrocities taking place inside Fearmans Pork (pigs) and greet each truck as they arrive to give love and compassion to the pigs and acknowledge as many of their lives as possible. Participate only in what you are comfortable with (if you only wish to hold a sign\, we sincerely appreciate that effort in educating the public ❤️ ). This is a non-formal event with a very laid back and easy going vibe. We want everyone to be comfortable and feel welcomed and absolutely no garbage behaviour will be tolerated (we know there won’t be any lol). \nPlease note this is a last minute emergency event based upon the weather outlook this coming week. We hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:RALLY: Animal Justice in Court to Block Return of Ag Gag Law
DESCRIPTION:Ontario’s dangerous ag gag law—which punishes whistleblowers and hides animal abuse— is back in court. After a judge struck down much of the law as unconstitutional last year\, the province filed an appeal in an attempt to overturn our hard-fought legal victory. Join Animal Justice and friends for a powerful rally outside the Ontario Court of Appeal as we return to the courtroom to defend the ruling. \nThe appeal will be heard by the Ontario Court of Appeal on Tuesday\, June 24 & Wednesday\, June 25. We need you there to show the court—and the public—that Canadians won’t accept laws that cover up cruelty and silence the truth about abuse at farms and slaughterhouses. Join us in an eye-catching rally\,  and help us spread the message that ag gag laws have NO place in Canada! \nSigns will be provided\, and you are welcome to bring your own. Bring your friends\, family\, and fellow advocates! \nNote: Please check the Faceboook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Empire of Greed! Cage-Free Campaign!
DESCRIPTION:Join Mercy For Animals volunteers to demand Sobeys to publish a time-bound plan for fulfilling their pledge to eliminate extreme confinement for hens in their egg supply chain. We will be out front of Sobeys corporate office voicing for the chickens. \nIn 2016\, Sobeys and their parent company\, Empire\, publicly promised to stop sourcing eggs from caged hens by 2025. \nYears later\, despite ruling over some of Canada’s largest and most profitable grocery brands\, Empire retracted their commitment deadline in 2021\, stating that they would not meet their original deadline. \nSobeys promised to publish an updated plan for finishing their transition but has yet to share how and when they plan to fulfill their cage-free promise. \nWe’re urging Sobeys to publish a time-bound plan for fulfilling their pledge to eliminate extreme confinement for hens in their egg supply chain. \nLearn about our current Canadian campaign here: https://empireofgreed.ca \nWe will be at the Sobeys located at 4980 Tahoe Blvd\, Mississauga\, ON L4W 0C7\, Canada\, Tuesday\, June 24\, at 1 PM to inform the public about this issue and hold them accountable to their promise. \nWe will have a banner\, signs\, and leaflets to use the day of. Come with yourself and bonus if you can bring a friend! \nBy attending this and other Mercy For Animals events\, you agree to our Volunteer Terms (https://mercyforanimals.org/volunteer-terms/) and Volunteer Handbook (https://file-cdn.mercyforanimals.org/…/MFA-Volunteer…).\nThis will be a peaceful protest! \nIf you have any questions feel free to message me on Facebook or by email at animalsmatter@hotmail.com \nThank you\,\nKelli Demontnea

\nLet’s return Toronto and other cities in Ontario to the thriving\, prolific animal activism centres they once were!\nAs the building that houses Wishbone is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto (but only during weekday office hours)\, Wishbone will unfortunately not be accessible to anyone requiring a lift to the third floor. Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab…where vegan is the default\, NOT the option
