SUMMARY:Marking One Year Since Animal Justice Exposed Cruel Animal Experiments at St. Joseph's Hospital
DESCRIPTION:Event by Animal Justice & Release the Dogs. \nJoin us as we gather to celebrate a historic victory for animals: Ontario’s ban on invasive medical experiments on dogs and cats! \nOne year ago\, Animal Justice exposed the secret animal testing taking place at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London\, Ontario. Thanks to the courage of two whistleblowers\, the determination of advocates and community members\, and the support of government leaders\, that exposé led to a historic victory: Ontario banned invasive medical research on dogs and cats. St. Joseph’s ended its dog experiments\, and the surviving dogs were released to a rescue organization. \nBut the fight isn’t over. While dogs and cats are now protected\, pigs\, rats\, and mice continue to be used for research at St. Joseph’s. As we honour the dogs whose lives were lost and celebrate those who finally found freedom\, we renew our commitment to the animals still waiting for theirs. \nJoin us as we celebrate this incredible milestone\, remember those who paid the price\, and urge St. Joseph’s to end animal testing once and for all and release the pigs\, rats\, and mice still in their lab. \nWhat to Expect:\n-A special message from the whistleblower(s)\n-Speeches from animal protection organizations\, community members and guardian(s) of former research dogs\n-A flower memorial honouring the animals who were lost\n-Community chalk messages\n-A letter-writing station where you can advocate for stronger protections for animals\n-Light music and opportunities to connect with your community \nCalls to Action:\n1. Asking St. Joseph’s Health Care London to publicly commit to ending all animal testing at the hospital and to transition to modern\, animal-free alternatives.\n2. Calling on the Government of Ontario to strengthen the legislation by closing the remaining loopholes that continue to allow harmful animal experimentation in the province. \nWhile not required\, you’re welcome to bring:\n-Flowers to add to the memorial\n-A poem\, art or words to share with your community\n-A handwritten note or message of hope\n-Signs or banners supporting an end to animal testing\n-Weather-appropriate clothing\, sunscreen\, and water \nTogether\, we’ll celebrate this historic victory\, honour the victims and survivors\, and continue the fight for every animal still waiting for freedom in a laboratory. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Protest to Stop York U Primate Research
DESCRIPTION:🚨 PROTEST TO STOP YORK UNIVERSITY’S PRIMATE RESEARCH\n📍 Meet at benches in front of Subway restaurant (no affiliation)\n🕜 Monday\, August 24th | 3 PM – 5 PM \nAt 3 PM\, we will gather at the benches in front of Subway before walking together to the protest location at/ by York University for a peaceful protest and friendly public outreach. It is easiest to find each other by arriving at the beginning\, but if you arrive late you can find us at the York U subway station entrances. \nSigns\, banners\, and leaflets will be provided. A media truck will also be around for part of this protest playing video footage of the investigation\, and we can take photos beside it. \nThis protest will focus on outreach to raise awareness and sharing the call to action. If possible please avoid large\, unrelated logos on clothing (such as brand names). Let’s be respectful to all and work together to help the animals. \nWe are coming together to raise awareness about the suffering of nine rhesus macaques currently being experimented on at York University… and to demand a future beyond animal testing. \nA recent undercover investigation by Last Chance for Animals (LCA) exposed disturbing conditions inside York’s primate research lab. According to footage\, records\, and expert reviews released through the investigation\, macaques were allegedly subjected to: \n• Brain/head implants\, some reportedly encrusted with blood\n• Water deprivation used as a “motivational tool”\n• Monkeys drinking their own urine due to dehydration\n• Eye coils attached to the females’ eyes\, resulting in blindness in one macaque after repeated surgeries\n• Social isolation for years at a time\n• Small barren cages causing severe psychological distress\n• Repetitive trauma behaviors like pacing\, swaying\, hair-pulling\, and self-harm\n• Permanent restraint collars around their necks 24/7 \, resulting in difficulties swallowing\n• Multiple invasive surgeries over many years; some of the macaques have been there for 17+ years \nOne macaque\, Kenny\, was documented repeatedly scratching at his implant until he reportedly pulled it out\, leaving a gaping wound. Another macaque\, Liesl\, reportedly suffered significant vision loss after multiple eye procedures. Experts reviewing the evidence described the conditions as causing severe physical and psychological suffering. \nThis protest is not only about York University. It is about the future of science and ethics in Canada. Around the world\, there is increasing momentum toward phasing out animal testing in favour of modern\, non-animal research methods. The United States and the European Union are already moving in this direction. Instead of defending outdated and cruel experiments on highly intelligent primates\, Canada should be investing in humane and innovative science. \nJoin us to stand up for compassion\, science without suffering\, and a better future for both animals and humans.\n📢 Please help spread the word by inviting friends and sharing this event. \n⬇️ LEARN MORE / TAKE ACTION/ SHARE:\nhttps://stopyorkprimateresearch.com/

SUMMARY:Protesting the CNE FARM Building
DESCRIPTION:Join us outside the CNE aka The Ex aka The Canadian National Exhibition- in Toronto\, to protest their continued operation of the “FARM” building\, where they display animals like widgets. \nThey don’t mention anything about the slaughter process\, about intensive confinement\, about the environmental destruction caused by animal ag\, the dangers of zoonotic disease\, or the the fact animal protein is NOT necessary. The benefits of a vegan lifestyle? Nowhere within the exhibition. \nThis awful display of live animals needs shutting down. Already no chickens are on display\, nor turkeys due to avian flu\, a virus that is dangerously spreading to other mammals. \nSign the petition to close the FARM: https://c.org/qHHWKkMVMx \nThis will be a peaceful demonstration. Signs will be provided but feel free to get creative.
