SUMMARY:HALTON BANNER EVENT IN BURLINGTON WED MAR 20th
DESCRIPTION:MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON YOUR LUNCH BREAK! \nWith the upcoming court case for Mally’s\, and the recent increase in media attention\, these public awareness events are more important than ever as only one side of this story is being told in the media until the court case takes place. We need people to know the truth about how the MNRF conducts themselves with Ontario’s Wildlife Rehabbers. \nWe’ll be setting at this busy intersection in Burlington using banners\, protest signs\, literature handouts\, and public outreach (all will be provided by organizers) to share our outrage and disgust over the abuse and murder of Mally’s 87 raccoons at the hands of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNRF)\, as well as the decades of MNRF over-reach and tyrannical authoritarian-style regulation of Ontario’s Wildlife Rehabbers. Enough is enough! \nWe’ll be meeting in the Plaza parking lot located on the northeast corner (where Indigo Bookstore is located)\, and as close as possible to the intersection. The address is 777 Guelph Line\, Burlington\, ON\, L7R 3N2. \nAs usual – please let us know if you would like help with car pool arrangements. \nAnd\, please share this Event on your own profile as well as to any community and/or animal-friendly groups or pages that you know in the area.

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save weekly vigil for the Pigs
DESCRIPTION:Don’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearman’s slaughterhouses. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) The purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nThough we don’t respect what they are doing for a living\, let’s respect the drivers for giving us this time to show the world the plight of farmed animals. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \nKeep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: \n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. \n2) Pigs are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some pigs will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n❤️❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Hilton Toronto Protest: Progress in Cage-free Commitment
DESCRIPTION:Let’s ask Hilton to report their cage-free progress! \nHilton has announced a policy to stop using eggs from hens confined in cruel cages. However\, they are not reporting global progress on this commitment. \nAs part of a Global Campaign from the Open Wing Alliance\, we will gather outside Hilton Toronto to protest their lack of transparency. \nWe’ll bring a few posters to share. Feel free to bring yours\, too! \n**If it is supposed to rain during the planned date and time\, the event will take place on Sunday instead. We’ll share an update if that’s the case!** \nLearn more: \nAnimal Justice is a member of the Open Wing Alliance (OWA)— a global coalition of organizations focused on ending the abuse of hens worldwide. \nOn February 13th\, OWA released Fair and Foul\, Global Travel Edition\, a report that exposes global hospitality and travel companies that are not reporting globally on their global cage-free commitments. OWA is now asking four (4) of those companies – Hilton\, Meliá Hotels International\, and Louvre Hotels Group – to keep their promises and publicly report on their global progress. \nBy providing detailed reporting on their progress\, these companies will catch up with major global hospitality groups like Aman Resorts\, StarHotels Choice Hotels\, IHG\, Dorchester Collection and Motel One which are already reporting on their commitment to end cruel cages in their global supply chains. \n

SUMMARY:Live Painting Animal Rights Fundraiser + Bake Sale
DESCRIPTION:Come join us to support Sulala Animal Rescue\, Animal Justice\, PETA and Animals Asia.\n100% of the proceeds from paintings sold will go to Sulala Animal Rescue\, Animal Justice\, PETA and Animals Asia. Each painting will represent their corresponding animal rights cause.\n100% of baked goods sold by Pia Sarker will go to Sulala Animal Rescue. \n‼️We are inviting you to join us in solidarity to raise funds and awareness for Sulala Animal Rescue in Gaza.\nSulala is the first and only animal rescue in the Gaza Strip. It was founded by Mr. Saeed Al Err\, a man with great love for animals. Unable to bear seeing poor stray animals hungry in the street\, he went on daily feeding tours for stray animals since the early 2000s. In 2006\, he was able to translate his love and charitable work to the establishment of a registered organisation\, Sulala (Arabic for “animal breeds”). Today\, Sulala has a dog shelter\, a cat shelter\, and a donkey shelter. Sulala is doing its best to care for many animals who are sick\, injured\, or displaced due to the siege on Gaza.\nAlongside the live painting event we are offering delicious vegan baked goods for sale\, with all proceeds benefiting Sulala Animal Rescue.\nIf you wish to contribute to our (vegan) baked goods table please contact Pia at animals4palestine@hotmail.com \n‼️Help ban the live export of horses for slaughter.\nEvery year\, thousands of Canadian horses continue to be tightly packed into wooden crates so they can be flown to Japan to be slaughtered and eaten as a raw delicacy. Horses are denied food\, water\, rest\, and adequate space on long\, gruelling flights. This causes the animals significant distress and puts them at risk of being injured\, collapsing\, and even dying in transit.\nTake action now! Tell MPs in the Agriculture Committee to support legislation to end the export of live horses for slaughter overseas and ensure a ban is passed as soon as possible.\nhttps://action.animaljustice.ca/page/143797/action/1 \n‼️Help rescue bears from bile farming in Asia.\nThere are just 300 bears left on terrible bile farms in Vietnam.\nEach and every one urgently needs saving. These farms are terrible places that innocent bears should never have to set foot in. Their gallbladders are stabbed with sharp needles without pain relief. Their bile is collected to be used in traditional medicine.\nA gift from you today can help us reach the last survivors of this awful trade. With around 300 bears still held prisoner in the bile industry\, this has become an animal welfare emergency. \n‼️Help animals suffering from cruel animal testing in laboratories.\nThis year\, millions of individual animals will suffer horrifically in laboratories and training programs. You can help PETA conduct investigations and campaigns to stop cruel tests and promote modern non-animal methods.

SUMMARY:Vegan Open Mic Night
DESCRIPTION:Calling all vegan virtuosos\, plant-based poets\, meat-free musicians\, cruelty-free comedians (and all the other entertainment categories for which I can’t think up clever alliteration)…Wishbone Animal Rights Lab is holding its first-ever Vegan Open Mic Night! \nIf you’re interested in being a performer\, please contact wishbonearlab@gmail.com for more details and to sign up. \nDepending on the number of brave souls getting in front of the mic\, we may or may not screen a vegan-themed film that evening. \nOur featured performer is Emmy-nominated TV writer\, author of “Meat Logic: Why Do We Eat Animals?”\, and now stand-up comedian — big round of applause — Charles Horn. \nCover charge of $7+ suggested. Food and beverages available for sale is a definite possibility. \nWishbone is a volunteer-driven\, largely self-funded initiative. Donations allow us to host more community-building events\, develop more programming\, conduct more workshops\, create more content\, purchase more equipment and literature\, and cover our monthly hard costs. \nFYI: The McKnight Building\, approaching its centennial\, boasts one of Toronto’s last operator-required elevators. Meaning that during weekends\, the elevator rests unless a fee is paid. If assistance to the 3rd floor is needed\, contact us\, and we’ll strive to accommodate you\, be it for this event or a future one. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Easy-Peasy Everyday Animal Activism
DESCRIPTION:Animal activism can be effective\, without being complicated or elaborate. And it doesn’t have to restrict itself to traditional methods like street marches with loud chants or holding up graphic imagery on a street corner (although both of these can be quite impactful…and often feel really good!). Instead\, standing up for animals can take on a variety of unique forms — almost as varied as the individuals taking part. Remember\, every small action contributes to creating a world that respects and protects animals. And if you’re doing something quick and easy\, you’re less likely to procrastinate or talk yourself out of it. \nBUTTON IT!\nThe Lab just so happens to have a button-making machine AND a consummate pro onsite who knows how to operate it. Alec “Buttons” Bosse will provide a step-by-step tutorial and will print out some shiny orbs ranging in size from 1 inch\, 1-1/4 inches\, 1-3/4 inches\, and 2-1/4 inches\, ready for backpack-pinning and distribution.\n@ap.bosse.yyz \nMY CARD…\nJenny “I Ain’t No Fur-Hag” McQueen will be sharing tips on how she engages with the public via her low-key “business card activism”. Then she’ll regale us with something way more scary: Approaching fur-wearers…and requesting that they “#ZipOffTheCruelty”. One activist…definitely two different comfort levels at play!\n@jennyveganmcqueen \n“HEY\, BRO\, YOU WANT THIS PAMPHLET?” BRO: “CHURE!” (you’ll get it eventually)\nIt can be very disconcerting to hand someone a flyer\, only to have them mock\, dismiss\, or discard it. Veteran educator\, activist\, and woman with the patience of a saint while handing out flyers\, Mary-Chris Staples\, will discuss the technique of targeted leafleting: The art of delivering the vegan message right into the hands\, minds\, and hearts of your intended audience…and keeping it there.\n@staplesmarychris \n“CHALK”-FULL OF CREATIVITY!\nWhy did we ask Tim Theodore and Jo Lalonde to do a presentation on chalktivism? Chalk it up to how artistic they are! (groan) Jo and Tim create magnificent chalk murals on sidewalks and walls\, and Tim is also responsible for the beautiful work-in-progress chalkboard piece that hangs proudly at Wishbone. These creatives will talk about how simple and effective “chalktivism” can be\, educate us on best practices and local laws\, and offer inspiration on images and strategic messaging to capture the public’s attention.\n@chalkchick @chalkingvegan \nLET YOUR FREAK FLAG FLY!\nTired of putting a poster or sticker on a pole\, only to find that some Zero the Hero has defaced it or torn it down? Well\, Sheldon Stewart of Compassion Is An Action has a simple little technique that will turn the tables on your tormentor and make your message virtually indestructible!\n@compassion.is.an.action \nSTICK IT!\nSue “Stickers” Spahr enjoys the Ninja art of stickering\, postering\, and “sneakleting” (stealthily leaving vegan literature for others to happen upon). She will share her insights on safeguarding the messaging from both environmental and human factors. And to ensure we don’t do more harm than good\, we’ll also discuss where one should NOT place stickers.\n@wishbonearlab\n@calling_all_vegans_show \nWEAR YOUR HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE…LITERALLY!\nPeople love to display their love for their favourite band or sports team. Advertise that you play on Team Vegan via your t-shirt\, mask\, hat…etcetera! Incorporate pro-animal rights messages into your wardrobe to spread awareness\, spark conversations\, and even meet like-hearted/like-minded people!\nThe Lab has loads of new and previously-loved vegan-themed shirts looking for a new home. For a minimum donation of $5.00 each\, you can support Wishbone AND rock your favourite vegan organizations\, sanctuaries\, and phrases! \n  \n
