SUMMARY:Love Over Money: The Man Who Walked Away From Baskins-Robbins Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Lab for this special screening\, a story about choosing love over money and following your heart and values. Special guest\, Ocean Robbins\, son of John Robbins\, will be Zooming in to introduce the film and pay tribute to his amazing Dad. \nGrab some popcorn and a drink from the concession stand — and no matter how cute he looks\, don’t give any to Vish\, our little plushie Ambassador of Anti-Speciesism — sit back\, and enjoy this inspiring film with like-minded/hearted individuals. \nIncreasingly uncomfortable about the negative health impacts\, environmental implications\, and animal exploitation issues surrounding the dairy industry\, this very unique human — who very recently passed away — John Robbins walked away from Baskin-Robbins in 1969 to align with his personal ethics and conscience. Preferring to advocate for a plant-based lifestyle and healthy eating\, he refused the family fortune to pursue a life of purpose\, ultimately becoming a renowned health advocate and author of books like Diet for a New America. \nHe believed the more ice cream people ate\, the more likely they were to experience heart disease\, diabetes\, and obesity; he found it morally unacceptable to profit from the suffering of exploited cows; and he recognized how dairy farming contributed to environmental degradation — so he lived in alignment with his values\, choosing compassion over profit and a life in service to others over financial security. \nTickets: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/love-over-money-the-man-who-walked-away-from-baskin-robbins-film-screening-tickets-1681472963899

SUMMARY:Protest Cruel Animal Tests on dogs\, pigs & more. Toronto
DESCRIPTION:We’ll gather outside this animal testing lab in numbers\, to peacefully protest\, and to bring awareness to the horrors happening behind closed doors. \nThis lab openly states they use dogs in cardiovascular testing. Shameful. \nCheck FB event link for updates: https://facebook.com/events/s/protest-cruel-animal-tests-on-/2224780844632230/ \nThe Ontario Premier\, Doug Ford\, has promised to hunt these places down and stop tests on cats and dogs. We’re helping to expose this place\, after the hospital in London\, Ontario was exposed. Two days after their protest\, they committed to ending the dog tests. \nWe want ALL animal testing to end. Pigs\, rats\, mice all suffer here. \nThe Canadian government was close to introducing laws against animal testing. Let’s push for that! \nThis is a collective action with Roses Law\, DxE\, The Anti-Vivisection Alliance\, Canadian Grassroots Animal Rights\, Animal Rights Toronto\, the Save Movement and others.

SUMMARY:Ending Real Fur Movie Screening
DESCRIPTION:A great film in a cool venue boasting a vegan concession stand! \nWith “fur season” right around the corner\, “Ending Real Fur” is an investigative documentary that uncovers the true cost of fur in the fashion industry\, from animal suffering to the dangers to our environment and public health. \nThe documentary follows the personal journey of director\, Taimoor Choudhry\, who comes from a life of glamour\, fast-living\, and high fashion in Pakistan. Taimoor goes from an uninformed individual wearing a fur-trimmed jacket to becoming a mindful consumer through his conversations with animal rights organizations\, a former fur farm worker\, lawyers\, politicians\, and celebrities. \nFeaturing appearances by local friends: Animal rights activist Malcolm Klimowicz\, animal rights lawyer Camille Labchuk\, and vegan/animal advocate politician Nathaniel Erskine-Smith! \nWe apologize that The Lab is not yet fully accessible\, but plans are in the works! \nLocation: \n108 Dundas St W\nToronto\, Ontario M5G IC3

SUMMARY:National Day of Action to End Live Horse Exports
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, we rallied across Canada to ban the cruel export of horses for slaughter. Dozens of MPs were contacted by phone and email\, and many had meetings with constituents about the issue. 50+ advocates gathered in Edmonton to demand change! \n📞 On Oct 1\, we need you again. Call your MP & urge them to support a federal ban on live horse exports. If you’ve already taken this action\, please share any updates with us or call again if you haven’t yet had a meeting! \nEvery year\, thousands of gentle\, intelligent horses are forced into cramped wooden crates and flown halfway across the world from Canada to Japan. Terrified and confused\, they endure long\, grueling flights—only to be fattened and then slaughtered for raw horse meat (sashimi). \nThis fall\, the Liberal government will introduce a new budget bill\, which can include non-budgetary measures like a ban on live horse exports. This is a key moment to push for change! \nWe need you—your heart and voice—to end this cruel and completely unnecessary practice once and for all. \n1st LEVEL ACTION:\nPHONE your MP’s constituency office (find your MP and contact details here: https://www.ourcommons.ca/members/en?)\nYou’ll likely get their voicemail or a staff member. Tell them:\n● Your name\n● That you’re a constituent (NOT a member of Animal Justice)\n● You’re calling because you’d like to see if your MP will support passing a ban on live horse exports in the fall Parliamentary session.\n● If they’re a Liberal MP\, ask if they’d be willing to work to include the ban on live horse exports in the fall budget bill.\n● That’s all you need to say\, but if you’d like to say more\, we provide some additional talking points in this Action Brief \n2nd LEVEL ACTION:\nFor those who want to take one of the most powerful steps you can for the horses…\nWhen you phone\, ask for a MEETING with your MP or a member of their team about supporting a ban on live horse exports in advance of the fall budget bill.\nUse the Action Brief we created for you with step-by-step instructions on scheduling\, preparing for\, and navigating your meeting\nYou even have the option of having a member of the AJ team attend the meeting with you if you book it via Zoom!\n—–\nMake sure to mark GOING to let us know you made or are making that call on October 1st. And check back here on that date to get inspired by other AJAer’s experiences\, get moral support from the team\, and share your own experience of reaching out.\nTogether\, let’s make October 1st a turning point for horses in Canada.

SUMMARY:Vegan Flower Action
DESCRIPTION:Hello everyone! \nWe’re organizing our annual toronto vegan artivism (art+activism) event on October 4th\, to coincide with Nuit Blanche and take advantage of the busy foot traffic that evening.\nThis year\, we’ll be giving away 2\,853 flowers or seeds symbolizing the 2\,853 land animals killed by the livestock industry every single second.\nWith this gesture\, we hope to gently raise awareness about compassion for animals\, sustainability\, and the impact of our food choices. \nOct 4th (Sat) 7 pm – 10 pm\nat Grange park (Beverley St & McCaul Street\, Toronto\, ON M5T 2W7)\nNote: We might start marching after 8:30 pm along University Ave. \n【We need your help!】\nTo bring this project to life\, we need to raise some funds to cover the cost of the 2\,853 flowers/seeds. Our goal is $1\,000.\nWe’d be grateful for any support\, every contribution makes a difference!\nDonate via e-transfer: torontoveganartivism@gmail.com\n【Who are we?】\nWe are 『toronto vegan artivism』.\nartivism = art + Activism\n “If art is something that touches someone’s soul\, activism is art with a direct and political message.”\ntoronto vegan artivism is an anti-oppression vegan collective.\n We believe that all forms of oppression are interconnected — and so are the paths to liberation.\nWe organize artivism events that often coincide with Nuit Blanche\, aiming to engage audiences who are already open-minded and curious about art. While people are celebrating creativity\, we plant seeds of awareness about the harsh realities of carnism. Through powerful\, beautiful\, and provocative acts of art\, we encourage reflection\, empathy\, and action. \nhttps://www.instagram.com/torontoveganartivism

SUMMARY:Court Hearing & Rally: Challenging Canada's Ban on International Dog Rescue
DESCRIPTION:Animal Justice & Soi Dog Canada will be in court to challenge Canada’s ban on international dog rescue on Wednesday\, October 8. In 2022\, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) banned dogs from over 100 countries from being brought into Canada for adoption or rescue. The ban was billed as temporary to protect against rabies\, but rabies is 100% vaccine-preventable\, and it has yet to be lifted. \nTragically\, international dog rescue charities were forced to stop their important work due to the ban. Canada was once a beacon of hope for dogs living on the streets and in shelters around the world—including in war-torn countries and in others where rescuers are saving animals from the meat trade. We can do better. \nJoin us in Ottawa for a peaceful rally calling on the government to:\n-End a blanket ban that does more harm than good\n-Give rescued dogs a second chance at life in Canada\n-Follow science-based\, modern veterinary guidelines \n🏛️ COURT SUPPORT – 9:30 AM\nThe legal challenge will begin inside the courthouse at 9:30 AM.\nSupporters are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend and show their support from inside the courtroom. Please be quiet and respectful. \n📢 RALLY – 1:00 to 1:30 PM\nMeet us outside the Ottawa Courthouse from 1:00 to 1:30 PM for a peaceful\, high-visibility rally.\n🐶 Bring your dogs! (Leashed\, friendly\, and comfortable in crowds)\n📣 Bring your voice—and we’ll provide the signs! \nTogether\, we’ll stand up for dogs and demand an end to the CFIA’s dog rescue ban. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
