SUMMARY:Cocoa\, Cookie\, & Compassion: A Holiday Screening of "How to Make Drugs"
DESCRIPTION:TAVA and Wishbone Animal Rights Lab present: Cocoa\, Cookies\, & Compassion: A Holiday Screening of “How to Make Drugs” \nFrom the co-creator of the sensational hit documentary films Cowspiracy and What The Health comes HOW TO MAKE DRUGS (and feel great about everything)\, a comedic look at the process of drug development in the US\, uncovering the wasteful\, dangerous\, and the absurd use of animal testing in the 21st century. Through interviews with premier researchers\, physicians\, policy experts\, lobbyists\, and activists\, a story unravels of unchecked government spending\, entrenched culture\, and faulty science\, costing taxpayers billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives each year. \nWe will be serving cookies and cocoa. \nLocation: 108 Dundas Street West\, 2nd Floor\, Toronto\, ON M5G 1C3 \nRSVP deadline: December 4 at noon \nPlease note that once we have reached 100 RSVP’s\, we will no longer be accepting them. SUMMARY:"Conversations" with Laura Berman
DESCRIPTION:Continuing with our “The Art of Compassion” exhibition series\, The Lab Vegutainment Centre (operated by your friends at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab) is pleased to bring you the work of Laura Berman\, a Toronto artist transplanted in 2012 to the rural farming community of Castleton\, Ontario. \nExhibit launch and reception will take place Saturday\, November 29th\, with the show running through January 29th\, 2026. Light plant-based refreshments will be served at the reception and elevator access is available via 600 Bay Street. This is a pay-what-you-wish event. \n‘Conversations’ presents a collection of intimate portraits that explore the emotional and interior lives of animals\, illuminating the complexity\, intelligence\, and depth of feeling often overlooked or misunderstood. \nThis exhibition challenges the conventional view of animals as objects or commodities\, inviting viewers to consider them as sentient beings with unique personalities and emotional depth. By focusing on moments of connection and vulnerability\, the works foster empathy and a deeper understanding of the intrinsic value of non-human life. \nThis project is both a visual celebration and an ethical invitation: to see animals not merely as background figures or commodities within our food system\, but as vibrant\, sentient companions sharing our world. \nThrough this lens\, the exhibition encourages a more compassionate\, respectful engagement with all living beings. \nAll work is printed in limited editions by a master printer on archival-quality fine art paper and is available in a variety of sizes. Work is sold unframed. \nTo get the essence of Laura’s work\, please visit:\nhttps://www.laurabermanphotography.com\nhttps://www.facebook.com/laurabermanphotography \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates

SUMMARY:A Circus of Broken Promises: Sobeys Cage Free Failure.
DESCRIPTION:The Sobeys Circus: Exposing Broken Promises Behind the Golden Pencil \nJoin us outside the Canadian Grocer’s Grocery Connex conference — home of the Golden Pencil Awards  — as we shine a spotlight on the real story behind the celebration. \nFormer Sobeys CEO Michael Medline\, who suddenly resigned in November 2025 — six months earlier than planned — is being honored for his “significant contribution to the Canadian food industry.” But there’s one major problem: he hasn’t improved life for the countless hens still suffering in cages. \nNine years ago\, Empire\, the parent company behind Sobeys\, Longo’s\, and other major grocery brands\, promised to go 100% cage-free by 2025. That promise has been broken. The deadline is here — and the hens are still trapped. \nSo while the Golden Pencil Awards celebrate “achievement\,” we’ll be outside to remind everyone that there’s nothing golden about broken promises. \nCome by and let us tell you why Sobeys is a complete circus!\nExpect colorful visuals\, passionate advocates\, and a powerful message for animals\, truth\, and compassion. \nLearn about our current Canadian campaign here: https://empireofgreed.ca \nBy attending this and other Mercy For Animals events\, you agree to our Volunteer Terms (https://mercyforanimals.org/volunteer-terms/) and Volunteer Handbook (https://file-cdn.mercyforanimals.org/…/MFA-Volunteer…). \nIf you have any questions feel free to message me on Facebook or by email at animalsmatter@hotmail.com \nThank you\,\nKelli Demontneay

SUMMARY:CBC Drop the Dairy Contest - Online Animal Justice Mobilization Teams
DESCRIPTION:Tell CBC to Call Off their Canadian Dairy Contest! \nCBC just launched their “Bake it with Canadian Dairy Contest”. They’re sharing recipes that call for dairy products as a main ingredient and are asking members of the public to enter their contest for a chance to win one of five prizes of Canadian dairy for a year.\nThe Canadian dairy industry carries out terrible abuses such as separating mothers and babies\, limiting the cows’ movement by tying them to stalls\, and killing male babies who are of no use to dairy farmers. \nThis is where you come in! Send a message to CBC\, letting them know the cruelty and harms behind their contest and tell them to call it off! \nOn the CBC contact page\, use the drop-down menu to choose “content” and in the form explain why you think they should call off their contest. \nFeel free to use one or multiple of the following talking points\, but please change up the wording. Bonus points if you can add your own personal touch so that your email stands out! \n1. Behind every glass of milk is a mother cow who endures repeated cycles of pregnancy and separation from her calves. Newborns are taken away within hours so her milk can be sold—a practice that causes immense distress for both mother and baby. Newborn male calves are often killed because they’re of no use to the dairy industry.\n2. The dairy industry treats living beings like production machines. When cows’ milk output declines\, they’re sent to slaughter\, often after years of confinement and exhaustion. It’s a cycle of exploitation hidden behind pastoral imagery and “family farm” marketing.\n3. The dairy industry isn’t just cruel to cows—it’s built on systems of inequality. Most people of colour are lactose intolerant\, yet Western diets and marketing still push dairy as a “nutritional necessity.” This reflects a long history of racism in food policy that centers white\, Eurocentric eating habits while ignoring the biological diversity of other communities. \nPlease note that the link to the contact page can’t be shared due to FB restrictions around media. You can find the CBC contact page on their website under “submit feedback” at the bottom of the home page! – I have included the link as well as a scan code to get you to the right page. Just follow the instructions and you should be good to go! \nLets ensure that CBC knows of our displeasure. Let’s begin!

SUMMARY:The Future of Marineland's Whales & Dolphins
DESCRIPTION:Register ➡️ https://bit.ly/3LbE3hP \nMarineland recently threatened to kill the 30 beluga whales in its care unless it receives government funding. This was after Ottawa rejected the park’s bid to export them to a subpar Chinese aquarium. \nSince then\, a lot of folks in the animal advocacy community have been unsure about what to do next to help the whales still suffering there. \nAt this Animal Justice event\, you’ll hear from the people working with government and other stakeholders on a concrete plan for the whales: \n• Charles Vinick and Dr. Lori Marino (Whale Sanctuary Project)\n• Camille Labchuk and Kaitlyn Mitchell (Animal Justice)\n• Melissa Matlow (World Animal Protection Canada\n• Dr. Naomi Rose (Animal Welfare Institute) \nThe event is hosted by Animal Justice’s Kimberly Carroll. \nWe’ll cover: \n• The Nova Scotia government approval clearing the way for the Whale Sanctuary Project and what’s next to get it operating\n• The research and site testing behind the seaside sanctuary plan\n• Viable options for whales and dolphins who can’t move to the sanctuary\n• What the federal and Ontario governments can do now—and where advocacy fits in\n• A first-hand account of the Chinese aquarium Marineland applied to send the whales to\n• What’s happening with the other animals at Marineland\nWe’ll also use this community gathering to take a high-impact action together.\nJoin us to help the animals trapped at Marineland get the care\, safety\, and future they need. \nSign up 👉 https://bit.ly/3LbE3hP
