SUMMARY:UrbAnimals in Need: Lending a Helping Human Hand to our Outdoor Friends
DESCRIPTION:**Schedule coming soon** \nA $3 suggested donation at the door is requested or secure your spot by registering on Eventbrite:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ca/e/urbanimals-in-need-lending-a-helping-human-hand-to-our-outdoor-friends-tickets-868077171187 \nSo many of us know the feelings of stress and helplessness when we come across an animal in need of help…particularly when we’re unsure how to do just that. This definitely holds true for our wildlife friends\, as well. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab will be hosting a two-day wildlife rescue workshop — because there was just far too much valuable information to cover in just one two-hour session! — with presentations by both experienced rescuers and some of the leading wildlife rescue\, rehab\, and release experts in Ontario: Toronto Wildlife Centre\, Shades of Hope\, FLAP\, and more to be announced! \nAttendees will gain useful insights on how to effectively assist injured\, distressed\, and orphaned animals; be armed with species-specific tips regarding some of the common animals we may encounter throughout Ontario; acquire a better understanding of animal behaviour\, including busting a number of the myths surrounding wildlife; and lots of general tips on ways to keep wildlife safe from harm and making a meaningful and positive difference in their lives. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab is a volunteer-driven\, largely self-funded initiative. Donations allow us to host more community-building events\, develop more programming\, conduct more workshops\, create more content\, purchase more equipment and literature\, and cover our monthly hard costs. \nFYI: The McKnight Building\, approaching its 100th birthday\, boasts one of Toronto’s last operator-required elevators. Meaning that during weekends\, the elevator rests unless prior arrangements are made and an hourly fee is paid. If assistance to the 3rd floor is needed\, contact us\, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Struck Down! Ontario’s Ag Gag law
DESCRIPTION:Animal Justice Academy is thrilled to invite you to our next AJA Lunchtime Live\, Struck Down! Ontario’s Ag-Gag Law Defeat Unpacked\, this Thursday\, April 18th\, at Noon – 1pm on ZOOM. \nAcross Canada\, provincial ag-gag laws have made it illegal for animal activists and journalists to go undercover to expose the horrific cruelty that exists on meat\, dairy\, egg\, and fur farms and slaughterhouses. \nOn April 2nd\, Animal Justice lawyers struck down major provisions of Ontario’s ag-gag law\, Bill – 156\, in Ontario’s Superior Court\, charging that the law unconstitutionally violated Canadians’ freedom of expression. \nThis is the first time in Canadian history that lawyers have successfully defeated ag-gag legislation in court\, making it a landmark VICTORY for animals! \nJoin us this Thursday\, April 18th\, as lawyer and executive director of Animal Justice\, Camille Labchuk and animal rights journalist\, Jessica Scott Reid break down the court ruling and discuss what it means for Canadian ag-gag laws in the future. They’ll also discuss what whistleblowers and journalists can expect going forward as they expose cruelty at Ontario’s animal farms and slaughterhouses. \nRegister (free!): https://training.animaljusticeacademy.com/lunchtime-live-registration-04182024 \nThursday\, April 18th\nNoon – 1pm ET on ZOOM

SUMMARY:Toronto Pig Save weekly vigil for the Pigs
DESCRIPTION:Don’t turn away. Please join us to bear witness to\, and to speak up for\, the thousands of baby pigs whose lives are needlessly and violently stolen from them daily at Fearman’s slaughterhouses. \nPlacards\, leaflets\, support are provided.\n——————————- \nPlease read these vigil and safety notes prior to attending. \n☮️ Keeping Save Movement vigils peaceful. \n1) The purpose of Save Movement vigils is to bear witness\, to see the reality\, to connect\, to document\, then to share with others. To bring peace to a violent space. Disruptions can take place at a different time. \n2) Truck Drivers:\nThough we don’t respect what they are doing for a living\, let’s respect the drivers for giving us this time to show the world the plight of farmed animals. \n3) Slaughterhouse Workers:\nSome workers may try to taunt (though rarely anymore). Offer a wave or peace sign instead of a negative reaction. Break the cycle of violence. \nKeep Arms out of the truck: \nWe’ve experienced a few serious injuries from vigil attendees putting hands/arms into the truck. Please avoid the temptation to reach inside for the following reasons: \n1) The truck may suddenly move\, trapping/taking you with it. \n2) Pigs are extremely large and heavy beings. Though they may not intend to hurt\, a human arm may frighten them and simple movement can crush or break bones. Instead\, offer your hand just at the opening of the truck. Some pigs will choose to come to you and sniff/lick your hand. \n3) Fear. Many of these beings have not known kind human hands in the past. This may cause them stress. \n❤️❤️ Thank you for your understanding and for coming to bear witness and to be their voice. Please bring a friend. They desperately need you.

SUMMARY:Vegan Bake Sale: Proceeds to Sulala Animal Rescue & New Cat City Rescue 50/50
DESCRIPTION:We are inviting you to join us in solidarity to raise funds and awareness for Sulala Animal Rescue in Gaza\, and New Cat City Rescue in Toronto. \nSulala is the first and only animal rescue in the Gaza Strip. It was founded by Mr. Saeed Al Err\, a man with great love for animals. Currently\, Sulala is doing its best to care for many animals who are sick\, injured\, or displaced due to the siege on Gaza.\nhttps://sulalaanimalrescue.com/ \nNew Cat City Rescue is based in Toronto and run by two individuals plus the help of a few trusted friends. We are a permanent home for cats with special needs and temporary home to cats transitioning to indoor life from outside. We help care for outdoor community cats in Toronto.\nhttps://newcatcity.ca/ \nWe will be offering delicious vegan baked goods for sale\, with all proceeds benefiting the two above rescues 50/50. \nWe will be accepting cash and etransfer only.\nPlease remember to bring your own bag\, and reusable containers if you wish. We will do our best to provide boxes for your items if you do not bring a container. \nPLEASE MARK YOURSELF ATTENDING and invite your friends! \nPlease make time to stop inside of Animal Liberation Kitchen to get yourself some lunch while you’re here! We are grateful for their support for this event.\nhttps://thealk.com/ \nThere will also be an auction for paintings to different animal rights initiatives by vegan artists. \nWe hope to see you! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
