SUMMARY:PaintPix & Chill @ The Lab
DESCRIPTION:PaintPix & Chills have become popular\, so we’ve decided to make them a permanent regular fixture at Wishbone. \nEnjoy a relaxing\, enjoyable afternoon and let your creative juices flow freely with Kieran Hayes\, volunteer at Wishbone (aka The Sunday Guy). \nBYOM (bring your own materials) or feel free to use what’s available at the Lab. \nAll skill levels from zero to Picasso are welcome. \nWe are a default-vegan centre\, so if you’re bringing food\, it must be plant-based only. \nAs the building that houses Wishbone is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto (but only during weekday office hours)\, Wishbone will unfortunately not be accessible to anyone requiring a lift to the third floor for this particular event. SUMMARY:Art Exhibit Opening & Reception - Missing Out by Fabliha Ahmed
DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibit: Missing Out by Fabliha Ahmed Reception at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab | Toronto | July 26\, 2025 | 2pm to 5pm \nJoin us at Wishbone Animal Rights Lab for a special afternoon celebrating the vibrant work of vegan artist\, Fabliha Ahmed. Her exhibit\, “Missing Out”\, flips the script on the tired notion that vegans are deprived. Rather\, through a series of bold\, radiant paintings showcasing plant-based dishes\, Fabliha shows that we are anything **but** missing out. \nEach piece in the exhibit is a joyful\, mouthwatering celebration of the abundance\, creativity\, and beauty of vegan food. Fabliha’s art invites viewers to see what compassionate living really looks like…colourful\, rich\, and deeply satisfying. It’s eye-candy that truly gives one food for thought! \nTreat yourself to this deliciously inspiring show and opening reception on Saturday\, July 26\, 2025…and meet Fabliha herself! Refreshments will be served…because an art exhibit just wouldn’t be complete without yummy finger foods (vegan\, of course!) and a mocktail to toast this talented artist. \nOriginals and prints are available for sale. Don’t miss this opportunity to take home your very own fabulous “Fabliha”! Wishbone Animal Rights Lab is volunteer-run and relies on the kindness of others (including ourselves!) to keep the Lab up and running\, so donations are gratefully accepted. Donations allow us to host more community-building events\, develop more programming\, conduct more workshops\, create more content\, purchase more equipment and literature\, and cover our monthly hard costs. Please show your support via wishbonearlab.ca/donate or e-transfer/PayPal to wishbonearlab@gmail.com. \nFYI: Wishbone is located within a heritage building that houses one of Toronto’s last remaining attendant-operated elevators. However\, outside of regular weekday office hours\, the lift is not always available. Unfortunately\, in this case\, this is NOT an accessible event. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Free the Beasts book launch and reception
DESCRIPTION:Following a live studio audience taping of The Calling All Vegans Show\, we will be celebrating NYC-based multimedia animal liberation and environmental protection artivists\, Artemis Beasts (aka Vilma Duplantier and Shelly Voorhees)\, at the unveiling of their stunningly gorgeous art + cookbook\, “Free The Beasts: Plant Based Activism”. Performance art\, plant-based food\, and activism come together to showcase the interconnectedness between human\, animal\, and nature\, to inspire peaceful co-existence and compassion for animals. \nBut the goodness doesn’t just live on the pages inside this book…10 percent of book sales and 30 percent of art sales will be distributed to @rowdygirlsanctuary \, @nyclass \, and @tamerlainesanctuary \, each doing crucial work for animals. \nOver mocktails and light plant-based snacks\, get to know the two anthropomorphic beings — half human animal/half non-human animal — who are featured throughout “Free the Beasts”\, where animals are not only NOT food\, but are instead in a position of great respect. \nThrough this book\, the Artemis Beasts are enjoying life\, good food\, freely expressing thoughts about animal liberation\, and presenting the abundance in the kingdom of plants. Their goal is for all of us to escape the broken\, dystopian\, animal-based food industry\, and live on a planet where all “beasts” are free. \nThe vintage elevator is up and running until 4:00! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Movie Night at the Lab - The Animals Film
DESCRIPTION:LabFlix and Chill! Plant-based concession stand snacks available for purchase. \n**Two short selections from the 2024 International Vegan Film Festival: “Let Death Be Kinder Than Man” by Vinzent Schatzmann and “I Want” by Raz Raivitz. \nTHE ANIMALS FILM:\nReleased in 1981\, but still shockingly relevant to today\, this controversial\, unflinching film was the “Earthlings” of its time.\nCreated by visionary filmmaker Victor Schonfeld and narrated by Julie Christie\, it exposes the many ways in which animals are exploited by humans — for food\, science\, entertainment\, and more. \nCombining rare footage and powerful storytelling\, it also traces the rise of the global animal rights movement. \nThe Lab is a default-vegan space\, so all outside food must be plant-based. Animal-friendly snacks are available at the concession stand. Vish\, our little plushie Ambassador of Anti-Speciesism\, gets LOTS to eat\, so don’t let him fool you when he asks for some of your popcorn! \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:AR Chats - Saturday\, June 28\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Come join with other like-minded and like-hearted people to chat\, brainstorm\, and strategize about standing up for the animals!\nAfter the chat\, join us from 2:00 to 3:00 to “Stick ‘Em Up” and hang posters re: banning fireworks\, reminding people to put out water for wildlife\, and showing our support for our LGBTQ+ friends. \nOn the agenda: Along with general discussion about getting animal-active\, we’re down to the short strokes with planning for the 2025 Toronto Animal Rights March! \nZoom link available. Contact Jenny McQueen\, Colleen Burns\, or Sue Spahr for details. \nA few details about AR Chats @Wishbone:\nWhether you’re a seasoned advocate or someone new to the scene\, this is a judgment-free\, no-pressure environment that welcomes every idea and supports every comfort level. Because each person is uniquely wired and different tactics resonate with different people\, there’s no one foolproof form of activism. \nAfter each session\, attendees are encouraged to participate in a street action to put your new skills and energy into practice (this is totally voluntary\, no pressure). And sometimes homework will be assigned and due for discussion at the next scheduled meeting.\nSome attend one week\, but can’t come to the next one…just attend when you can. \nPlease feel free to bring a plant-based food item to share. \nLet’s return Toronto and other cities in Ontario to the thriving\, prolific animal activism centres they once were!\nAs the building that houses Wishbone is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto (but only during weekday office hours)\, Wishbone will unfortunately not be accessible to anyone requiring a lift to the third floor. Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab…where vegan is the default\, NOT the option

SUMMARY:AR Chats @ Wishbone
DESCRIPTION:Come join with other like-minded and like-hearted people to chat\, brainstorm\, and strategize about standing up for the animals!\nOn the agenda: Along with general discussion about getting animal-active\, we’re down to the short strokes with planning for the 2025 Toronto Animal Rights March! \nZoom link available. Contact Jenny McQueen\, Colleen Burns\, or Sue Spahr for details. \nA few details about AR Chats @Wishbone: \nWhether you’re a seasoned advocate or someone new to the scene\, this is a judgment-free\, no-pressure environment that welcomes every idea and supports every comfort level. \nLet’s return Toronto and other cities in Ontario to the thriving\, prolific animal activism centres they once were! \nAs the building that houses Wishbone is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto (but only during weekday office hours)\, Wishbone will unfortunately not be accessible to anyone requiring a lift to the third floor. Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab…where vegan is the default\, NOT the option. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:LIVE Studio Audience Taping - Calling All Vegans
DESCRIPTION:Friday the 13th?!? Hope you’re not superstitious! \nJoin us Friday\, June 13th at 1:30 (come a little earlier to pick your seat and get yourself settled) and be part of a live studio audience.\nFeel free to bring your lunch (but plant-based only). And you have our blessing to call your work and say you got “sick” all of a sudden\, or give yourself permission to take a well-deserved loooong lunch…and even don’t bother going back?. We won’t tell!\nAnd because it’s a weekday\, the vintage elevator will be running! \nSome of us are more logical and data-driven and generally lead with our heads\, while others of us fall under the more touchy-feely and even artsy-fartsy\, creative column\, and tend to follow our hearts. Saarang Ahuja has a big toe in both categories. Tech guy by trade\, but busting dance moves and supporting animal rights projects as his passion. And he got to wear both hats while contributing to the groundbreaking film\, “Christspiracy”\, being both an executive producer and a data scientist on the project.

SUMMARY:PaintPix & Chill @ The Lab
DESCRIPTION:PaintPix & Chills have become popular\, so we’ve decided to make them a permanent regular fixture at Wishbone. Due to the need for artists need to spread out and create\, the event is capped at 15 participants. Our apologies in advance for this inconvenience. \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.

SUMMARY:Wishbone Animal Rights Lab After-March Social
DESCRIPTION:You’ve worked hard for the animals and deserve a break and a recharge! \nAfter a few hours of animal rights activism-ing\, why not treat yourself to meeting Vish\, enjoying a little relaxation and quiet time\, perhaps some mingling/brainstorming/strategizing with like-minded and like-hearted friends (both old and new)\, and maybe even enjoying some tunes in a space where not only is vegan the option\, it’s the DEFAULT. \nWishbone Animal Rights Lab will be open from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. following the Toronto Animal Rights March\, with both our rooms open wide….but each of them with a different vibe (it **sort of** rhymes). \nWhether you’re a seasoned animal advocate or someone new to the scene\, the Lab is a welcoming\, judgment-free\, no-pressure environment. \nThere will also be an AV Cube right outside of Wishbone\, so feel free to store your bags\, pop up for a comfort break\, etc. \nFYI: As the building that houses Wishbone is a heritage building boasting one of the last attendant-operated elevators in the city of Toronto (but only during weekday office hours)\, Wishbone will unfortunately not be accessible to anyone requiring a lift to the third floor. SUMMARY:The Art of Kindness: Celebrating Vegan Creative Juice (featuring John Sakars)
DESCRIPTION:We have been bursting to share the news that Wishbone Animal Rights Lab will be holding its first-ever vegan art exhibit\, number one in a series of monthly rotating shows. And who better to take this inaugural step with us than the kind\, humble\, genuine\, and talented John Sakars! \nBoth whimsical and profound at the same time\, John’s art is not only eye-candy and eye-catching\, but it will touch your heart deeply and give you food for thought. \nAt least 50 of his pieces will be on display at The Lab from June 29th through the entire month of July. Originals and prints are available for sale\, and John has graciously and generously offered for this event to double as a fundraiser for Wishbone. \nPlease join us at this reception to kick off the show\, meet the artist himself\, and to celebrate John’s wonderful works. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to take home your very own “John Sakars”! \nPlant-based food and beverages available. \nFYI: Wishbone Animal Rights Lab is located within a heritage building that houses one of Toronto’s last remaining attendant-operated elevators. However\, outside of regular weekday office hours\, booking the lift requires an hourly fee to be paid. For attendees needing such assistance to the 3rd floor during this event\, we will be providing this service within a designated timeframe. Further details to be provided shortly. \nThe Lab is a volunteer-run\, largely self-funded initiative. Donations allow us to host more community-building events\, develop more programming\, conduct more workshops\, create more content\, purchase more equipment and literature\, and cover our monthly hard costs. wishbonearlab.ca/donate or e-transfer to wishbonearlab@gmail.com \nNote: Please check the Facebook event page for updates.
