Let’s be respectful to all and work together to help the animals. \nWe are coming together to raise awareness about the suffering of nine rhesus macaques currently being experimented on at York University… and to demand a future beyond animal testing. \nA recent undercover investigation by Last Chance for Animals (LCA) exposed disturbing conditions inside York’s primate research lab. \nAccording to footage\, records\, and expert reviews released through the investigation\, macaques were allegedly subjected to:\n• Brain/head implants\, some reportedly encrusted with blood\n• Water deprivation used as a “motivational tool”\n• Social isolation for years at a time\n• Small barren cages causing severe psychological distress\n• Repetitive trauma behaviors like pacing\, swaying\, hair-pulling\, and self-harm\n• Permanent restraint collars around their necks\n• Multiple invasive surgeries over many years\n• Monkeys reportedly drinking their own urine due to dehydration \nOne macaque\, Kenny\, was documented repeatedly scratching at his implant until he reportedly pulled it out\, leaving a gaping wound. Another macaque\, Liesl\, reportedly suffered significant vision loss after multiple eye procedures. Experts reviewing the evidence described the conditions as causing severe physical and psychological suffering. \nThis protest is not only about York University. More info can be found there. \n\nAnimals are suffering\nRescues and shelters are full\, closed to intakes\nAbusers left unpunished – left to continue harming animals\nRescues and sanctuaries are being forced to hold animals that Animal Welfare Services have no ability to\nOntario’s government-run animal welfare legislation and enforcement system is completely broken\nLegislation and underlying regulations are very weak and vague\, making compliance nearly impossible\nResponse times to animal-in-need calls take days or weeks\nInspectors woefully under-resourced\nBreeders not licensed\nNo accountability to the taxpayers of Ontario\nOver 70% of the annual budget is spent on salaries\, not services\n\nThere will be parking at the travel agency located on Stanley Ave. We have spoken to them and they know we are protesting that day. There is also parking on side streets\, just be mindful of where you can park. Even if you can’t make it for the whole time from 10am to 2pm\, any part of the protest you can be there helps gets their voices heard. DESCRIPTION:Join Mercy For Animals volunteers to demand Sobeys to publish a time-bound plan for fulfilling their pledge to eliminate extreme confinement for hens in their egg supply chain. We will be out front of Sobeys corporate office voicing for the chickens. \nIn 2016\, Sobeys and their parent company\, Empire\, publicly promised to stop sourcing eggs from caged hens by 2025. \nYears later\, despite ruling over some of Canada’s largest and most profitable grocery brands\, Empire retracted their commitment deadline in 2021\, stating that they would not meet their original deadline. \nSobeys promised to publish an updated plan for finishing their transition but has yet to share how and when they plan to fulfill their cage-free promise. \nWe’re urging Sobeys to publish a time-bound plan for fulfilling their pledge to eliminate extreme confinement for hens in their egg supply chain. \nLearn about our current Canadian campaign here: https://empireofgreed.ca \nWe will be at the Sobeys located at 4980 Tahoe Blvd\, Mississauga\, ON L4W 0C7\, Canada\, Tuesday\, June 24\, at 1 PM to inform the public about this issue and hold them accountable to their promise. \nWe will have a banner\, signs\, and leaflets to use the day of. After a judge struck down much of the law as unconstitutional last year\, the province filed an appeal in an attempt to overturn our hard-fought legal victory. Join Animal Justice and friends for a powerful rally outside the Ontario Court of Appeal as we return to the courtroom to defend the ruling. \nThe appeal will be heard by the Ontario Court of Appeal on Tuesday\, June 24 & Wednesday\, June 25. We need you there to show the court—and the public—that Canadians won’t accept laws that cover up cruelty and silence the truth about abuse at farms and slaughterhouses.
