DESCRIPTION:The Sobeys Circus: Exposing Broken Promises Behind the Golden Pencil \nJoin us outside the Canadian Grocer’s Grocery Connex conference — home of the Golden Pencil Awards  — as we shine a spotlight on the real story behind the celebration. \nFormer Sobeys CEO Michael Medline\, who suddenly resigned in November 2025 — six months earlier than planned — is being honored for his “significant contribution to the Canadian food industry.” But there’s one major problem: he hasn’t improved life for the countless hens still suffering in cages. \nNine years ago\, Empire\, the parent company behind Sobeys\, Longo’s\, and other major grocery brands\, promised to go 100% cage-free by 2025. That promise has been broken.
