AAM: The Plant-Based Treaty
May 24 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
There has never been a more urgent need for a Plant Based Treaty. Animal agriculture, alongside fossil fuels, is a driving force behind potential catastrophic climate change. The grand strategic objective of the Plant Based Treaty is to develop a plant-based food system that would enable us to live within our planetary boundaries and reforest the Earth. Modeled on the Fossil Fuel Treaty, the Plant Based Treaty aims to create bottom up pressure by getting endorsements from millions of individuals, tens of thousands of groups and businesses and dozens of cities. Besides endorsements, our campaign is building a support base and developing site specific Plant Based Treaty teams working on implementation at the local city level. In this workshop we will go over “How to start a new cities campaign” including building a team, creating a petition and email letter, meeting with city officials, organizing direct action and street theatre, building a coalition and sending councilors and mayor a pitch, draft motion, briefing document, and template letter.
