online action!
University of Toronto is hosting an event called Science Rendezvous on Saturday, May 13, an annual festival that “…brings science out of the lab and onto the street…” People will have a chance to “…interact with world-class researchers, witness awe-inspiring demonstrations, partake in hands-on experiments and above all, have fun while discovering science in a whole new way!”
Part 1:
In order to inform attendees of what U of T is really up to when it comes to “science,” Toronto Anti-Vivisection Alliance will be in attendance. After all, animals won’t be brought out and tested on during this event. The university likes to keep that aspect hush hush. We will set up our banners, hold signs, hand out flyers, do some chanting, and engage with the public for some outreach.
Details:
Start: 10:30 a.m. – meet at southeast corner of Bloor Street West and Devonshire Place (actual location of event is at 100 St. George Street)
End: 1 p.m. See less
Part 2: Let’s apply further pressure by contacting the event organizers at the links below to let them know that it’s wrong to test on animals and that if U of T were being transparent, it would bring the animals out of the labs and test on them in public. Why isn’t the school doing this? Because it knows very well that people would be outraged. Vivisection is not only inhumane but also costly, time-consuming, and ineffective. It’s not science. It’s violence.
